The web worms deprive your lawns root system from the very nutrients that it needs. During the beginning stage your lawn just looks like it is thinning out.

 

Watering your lawn more will not bring it back. After the first fertilizer your lawn should start to come out of dormant.

 

 

You must fertilize your lawn at least 5 times for it to fully recover.

One of the easiest ways to tell if you have a lawn pest is to look for birds eating on your lawn early in morning. Later in the season you can look for moths flying above the grass. Sod web worms go through several stages of metamorphosis.
